Numbers show deadly police chases are on the rise in St. Louis

Tuesday, an innocent driver died when a driver in a stolen pickup trying to get away from police hit his car.

ST. LOUIS — Our I-Team found deadly police chases appear to be on the rise in the St. Louis Metro area, including both sides of the river.

In 2015, there were three deadly crashes resulting from police chases. In 2016, there were 6. By 2017, that number was up to seven.

Right now, we don't have access to 2018 data, and these numbers don't show who was killed in each crash, whether they were the suspects trying to get away or innocent people in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Tuesday, an innocent driver died when a driver in a stolen pickup trying to get away from police hit him. Police identified the victim as Harvey Lee, 48.
