Vice President Pence pushes tax reform at pro-business event

Vice President Mike Pence touted economic success at the Marriot St. Louis. A woman was removed from the speech after an outburst that appeared to refer to family separations at the US-Mexico border.

ST. LOUIS — Vice President Mike Pence touted tax breaks at a pro-business event Thursday at the Marriot St. Louis Grand Hotel.

“Since the election day 2016, businesses large and small have created 3.7 million new jobs all across America,” said Pence.

In Missouri, 46,000 new jobs and 16,000 in St. Louis alone were added, according to Pence. He credits part of that success on President Trump’s tax breaks for individuals and businesses. It’s something many invited guests were happy to hear.

Jack Firse, a Pence supporter, said, “Low unemployment increased job growth. And money in our own pocket.”

“He reemphasized all the great things President Trump is doing," Jennifer Coulter, a Pence supporter, said. "Cutting taxes, helping the American people.”

Outside the hotel, the vice president was greeted by a swarm of protesters.

One woman was tossed out of the event for her outburst when she yelled at Pence, “Where are the women and children?”

She was likely referring to the separation of families at the Mexican border.

Pence’s speech came on the heels of a contentious NATO summit and a meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We’ve met Russian aggression with American strength,” said Pence.

The meeting is causing strained relations with many American allies.

“President Donald Trump will always be willing to pursue peace. But under his leadership it will always be peace through strength,” said Pence.

After this speech, Vice President Mike Pence went to fundraisers for Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley and Representative Mike Bost of Illinois.
