HERCULANEUM, Mo. (KSDK) - Three employees suffered burns at the Doe Run plant in Jefferson County Tuesday morning.
According to a statement issued from the Doe Run Company, the incident occurred at approximately 6:35 a.m. The three employees were injured as a result of a small sulfuric acid leak in a storage line after a connection broke apart.
One employee was airlifted to St. John's burn unit, one was rushed to Jefferson Regional Hospital, and the third was driven to a local urgent care.
Theemployees taken to Jefferson Regional and a local urgent care have since been treated and released. The condition of the other worker has not been disclosed.
A Doe Run spokesperson said the damage has been isolated and there is no further risk to other employees or the environment.
The cause of the leak remains under investigation.
Doe Run is a metals mining company and a leading producer of lead.
