Volunteers reach out to north St. Louis residents

Community leaders say there's only so much police can do when it comes to fighting violence in St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Community leaders say there's only so much police can do when it comes to fighting violence in St. Louis.

That's why volunteers went on a door-to-door mission Saturday in one of the city's most dangerous neighborhoods to let people know about all of the resources available to their community.

Those resources range from drug treatment assistance to emergency childcare to job-training.

"The response has been amazingly positive," volunteer Eric Lilly said. "People are very receptive to us. They are kind. They are interested in the information we are providing."

Members of the H. McGee Alexander Lodge No. 3 teamed up with Better Family Life for the project.
