KSDK – Do you still use Internet Explorer? It might be time to take the plunge and download another browser.
Microsoft confirmed last night that it has found a vulnerability that could affect every version of Internet Explorer.According to Gizmodo, the "use after free"attack corrupts data as soon as memory has been released – generally after users have been sent to phony websites.
Here's how Microsoft describes the vulnerability:
The vulnerability is a remote code execution vulnerability. The vulnerability exists in the way that Internet Explorer accesses an object in memory that has been deleted or has not been properly allocated. The vulnerability may corrupt memory in a way that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user within Internet Explorer. An attacker could host a specially crafted website that is designed to exploit this vulnerability through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the website.
After its investigation, Microsoft says it will try to provide a solution through the monthly security release process or an out-of-cycle security update.
According to Fire Eye, a security firm, the vulnerability means about 26 percent of the browser market is at risk.
