The Cardinals announced second baseman Kolten Wong was placed on the disabled list prior to Sunday's series finale against Denver.

Wong, 26, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left elbow strain. He was originally listed to start Saturday against Denver but was scratched shortly before the start of play. Greg Garcia replaced Wong in the infield.

In 2017, Wong was batting .278 with 11 doubles, one home run and 16 RBI in 41 games.

The Cardinals purchased rookie infielder Paul DeJong from Triple-A Memphis following the disabling of Wong. DeJong, 23, was the Cardinals' fourth-round draft selection in the June 2015 draft out of Illinois State University. He was named to the Double-A All-Star team in 2016, leading the Springfield Cardinals with 22 home runs, 29 doubles and 73 RBI.

In 2017, DeJong led Memphis with 11 home runs and 31 RBI in 46 games. He played 37 games at shortstop, four at second base and three at third base.

With his call-up to the majors, DeJong will be making his MLB debut in Denver.
