Alex Ovechkin, the good Samaritan.

The Washington Capitals captain has played a major role in helping his team on the ice, but on Friday night he did something off the ice to help a homeless man in Edmonton.

With temperatures in the low 30s, Ovechkin bought a homeless man a sweater, hat and coat.

A local cafe, The Sequel Cafe, first posted on Twitter Friday night saying they saw Ovechkin "take off his winter jacket and hat and give it to a homeless man he passed on the street."

On Saturday, that story was corroborated by Ovechkin to reporters. The Washington Post's Isabelle Khurshudyan said Ovechkin seemed "uncomfortable" talking about it.

"If you see a guy almost naked out there with that kind of temperature, I think every human can do something, you know?" Ovechkin told reporters.

Ovechkin seemed uncomfortable talking about how he gave an Edmonton homeless man some clothes. Said it was hard to see with the temps here.

The Edmonton Oilers host the Capitals on Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET.
