ST. LOUIS — The Blues placed defenseman Alex Pietrangelo on the injured reserve with a lower-body injury, the club announced Tuesday.
Pietrangelo sat out Sunday and Monday's games and was listed as "day to day." The 27-year-old ranks second among defensemen with seven goals and ranks fifth with 23 points in 30 games this season. In 569 career regular season games, Pietrangelo has accumulated 326 points — 72 goals and 254 assists — in 10 seasons with St. Louis.
The Blues recalled Jordan Schmaltz from the San Antonio Rampage to replace the defenseman. The 24-year-old has recorded 80 points — 14 goals and 66 assists — in 137 career AHL regular season games. Schmaltz was drafted by the Blues in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
The Blues will play the Tampa Bay Lightning at Scottrade Center Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
