Gusty winds, bitterly cold overnight

A half foot of snow over southeast Missouri into southern Illinois

The storm system moving through the Midwest Saturday has been tough to forecast.

While most of the metro area has seen flurries today, a band of heavier snow developed about 50 miles farther south than expected. This band dropped more than six inches of snow in some areas. Roads just to the south and southeast of the metro area will remain rather slick through the overnight hours

Several accidents were reported across southern Illinois and southeast Missouri. At one point, parts of I-55 in Ste. Genevieve were shut down so crews could clear several wrecked vehicles. Areas of I-64 and I-57 past Mt. Vernon also had travel issues during the evening.

Any wet spots will quickly freeze, and untreated icy patches could be a problem.

Temperatures will also continue to fall through the night, eventually to near 10 degrees overnight. With strong winds the wind chill will dip to near zero.

We stay cold Sunday with highs only in the low 20s.
