5 On Your Side earns prestigious National Murrow Award

Mike Bush and Tom Stasiak earned a 2024 Edward R. Murrow Award for sports reporting on "Cody's Wish."

ST. LOUIS — 5 On Your Side anchor Mike Bush and photographer Tom Stasiak earned recognition with an Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association. The national awards were announced Thursday.

Bush and Stasiak told the story of a boy and his fulfilling connection with a horse. Cody Dorman was born with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome and used a wheelchair. He was given the chance to meet a foal who would later be named "Cody's Wish."

Cody's Wish was a lifeline for Cody through the pandemic, ongoing health challenges and depression.

Cody was able to see Cody's Wish race. He had a slow start at the Breeder's Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland, but in a miraculous turn, Cody's Win surged ahead and finished first.

Cody Dorman died in November 2023, but his memory lingers in the hoofbeats of Cody's Wish.
