Justina Coronel is a multi-skilled journalist at 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri. She shoots, writes, edits, and reports her own stories.
Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Justina came to 5 On Your Side in April 2019 from WMDT in Salisbury, Maryland (Scott Connell’s hometown!). She says she chose St. Louis as the next step in her career for several reasons.
“Everything about St. Louis seemed appealing: the sports scene, the food (toasted raviolis), and everyone just seemed so welcoming,” said Justina.
Justina wanted to be a journalist because she feels passionately about telling stories that make a difference in the lives of the community.
“When the community steps up to help because of our report, that’s what makes this job so amazing,” said Justina.
She’s also a big believer in seizing the day and making the most of every situation. In her free time she enjoys playing basketball, watching sports, traveling, and trying new restaurants. Giving back to the community is also important to her, so she’s always looking for volunteer opportunities.
Justina is a graduate of Florida State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and English. She earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from University of Miami. She’s fluent in Spanish and has two Associated Press awards – Best Multi-Media Journalist and Best Continuing Coverage. In 2021, Justina was nominated and approved to the St. Martha's Hall Board of Directors.
