Kay Quinn is an Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter at 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri. She currently anchors the noon newscast solo and the 4 p.m. newscast with Brent Solomon and Chief Meteorologist Scott Connell.
After joining the station in 1989, there’s no place like 5 On Your Side for Kay.
“It’s really home for me,” said Kay, when asked about her almost three decades at the station.
It’s a feeling she knows viewers get too.
“So many people tell me they also get that feeling of family when they watch our station.”
Putting down roots in St. Louis is something Kay treasures. She was born in San Jose, California, grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, and also lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
“When people ask where I went to high school, I have to ask what year, because I attended three different high schools in three cities and two countries,” said Kay. “That’s when people’s eyes glaze over.”
Kay’s interest in television and journalism grew from her father’s career in sports management. The late Jack Quinn was a former president of the St. Louis Blues Hockey Club and spent more than 40 years in sports management.
“All through my childhood, my dad’s friends were broadcasters and sportswriters, so I was exposed to broadcasting and journalism from a very early age,” said Kay. “They would always ask if I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps, but little did they know, I was fascinated by their line of work.”
Kay has reported on a variety of topics throughout the years, but her specialty is health. She’s covered some of the latest advances in medicine, many of which were pioneered right here in St. Louis. In mid-2020 Kay introduced a new segment called "Kay's Moment of the Day" at the end of the 4 p.m. newscast. It features photos and videos submitted by viewers.
She’s a graduate of Maryville University in St. Louis with a degree in Communication.
When she’s not working, she’s enjoying downtime with her husband, son, and standard poodle in St. Louis County, a place she loves to call home.
