Laura Barczewski is a multi-skilled journalist at 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri.
As a St. Louis native, Laura always dreamed of working at 5 On Your Side. Her dreams came true when she was hired in May 2022 after working for nearly a decade as a reporter, anchor and producer at stations in Des Moines, Iowa; Columbia, Missouri; and Mobile, Alabama.
She grew up in Ballwin and O’Fallon, Missouri and is a graduate of St. Dominic High School. She fell in love with storytelling at a very young age. The talented journalists at 5 On Your Side inspired her to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. She grew up watching Today in St. Louis with Art Holliday and Jennifer Blome every morning before school and hoped she would be part of the team someday.
Laura earned a degree broadcast journalism with a minor in Black studies. Her story on the history of Black Columbia was a part of KOMU’s 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award win for Excellence in Website. Her work as a weekend anchor and reporter in Mobile, Alabama played a part in winning a 2021 local Nappie Award for Best Weekend TV News Team.
Outside of work, Laura enjoys spending time with her cat, Pumpkin, being with her friends and family, and teaching barre classes. She’s engaged to her longtime boyfriend Jacob and is getting married in October 2023. She’s so happy to be home doing what she loves.
