Tom Planchet is the director of digital content at KSDK 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri. He came to KSDK in August 2024 after spending 42 years at TEGNA’s sister station, WWL-TV in New Orleans.
For his first 17 years at WWL-TV, Planchet worked in the sports department as a producer and helped start the station’s Friday night high school football show and the Sunday night sports final show called “Fourth Down on 4.”
In 2001, Planchet switched gears and took on the station’s digital operation near its onset. He was part of the coverage team for major stories that included more than a dozen hurricanes, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005, for which WWL-TV was awarded a national Eppy Award as the nation’s top web site.
Over his career leading the award-winning WWL digital team, they won 12 Regional Murrow Awards and a National Murrow in 2021. The national award recognized his team’s coverage of hurricanes, the COVID-19 outbreak, and racial protests in the wake of the George Floyd killing.
After 25 years as WWL’s digital leader, Planchet sought a new challenge and was chosen to head up KSDK’s digital team. He comes to St. Louis with his wife, Kevin Ann. The couple has three grown daughters who are scattered from coast to coast.
“I wanted a new challenge and KSDK’s reputation, much like WWL’s gives me a chance to work with one of the country’s top stations,” said Planchet.
