ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis bread bakery is among one of the best in America, according to the Food Network.
Food Network put together a list of 35 of the best bread bakeries in America. Union Loafers made the list.
It’s located in the Botanical Heights neighborhood.
“This place has the freshest bread ever! All their ingredients are so fresh, pungent and delicious! Got the turkey and Swiss and their salad with chicken. Both were packed with flavor. You have to try this place!” Zach H. wrote on Yelp.
Food Network said Ted Wilson started baking in high school. He started with first making pizza to “woo a date.” But it turns out he fell in love with making dough instead. Food Network boasted about Union Loafers’ ‘light and mild,’ which is described as a “crackly crusted” sourdough loaf with an open, custardy crumb that boasts a sight tang and creamy sweet flavors of wheat.
You can find Union Loafers at 1629 Tower Grove Ave.
This is not the first time the Food Network has recognized Union Loafers. Back in January, when the network released its list of the Best Sandwiches in America, the list included the bakery's smoked trout salad sandwich.
‘At Union Loafers Cafe in St. Louis, the sandwich-obsessed chefs smoke the fish over applewood and mix the meat up with housemade mayo, lemon, capers and fennel,’ Food Network wrote.
