ST. LOUIS – A new restaurant is coming to St. Louis’ Lafayette Square later this summer.
Mayo Ketchup by Plantain Girl will pay homage to Puerto Rico’s most beloved condiment.
Owner, Mandy Estrella, will open the restaurant inside 2001 Park Avenue. The 4,000 square foot space was formerly home to Laredo.
“The overwhelming response we received over the past four years from catering, pop up events, and our year operating the Latin forward kitchen Alphateria has encouraged me to pursue a permanent location,” Estrella stated. “Everyone has a deep connection to the food culture they were first exposed to with family and friends, imagine if you couldn’t find that in the city you lived in. I began this journey thinking there was a demand for this cuisine in the St. Louis area that wasn’t being fulfilled without knowing how that belief would become so apparent.”
“The historic and beautiful Lafayette Square, centrally located from Illinois, St Louis County, and St. Charles, as well as our loyal city followers was the right fit.”
The menu will feature authentic Latin American dishes.
“We have been in proof of concept and menu development for four years waiting for the correct timing and a perfect location to align. I am envisioning MK as a welcoming space, from our friends we’ve met along the journey, to our new neighbors, and for everyone we have yet to introduce to this amazing food culture and our passion for service.” Mandy Estrella.
An official opening date has not been announced.
