ST. LOUIS – For the seventh year in a row, a St. Louis favorite is taking its talents to ‘Memphis in May.’

Sugarfire Smoke House owner and chef Mike Johnson and team will travel to Tennessee to smoke out the competition at the 42nd Annual Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest.

The event starts on May 15 and foes through the 18.

World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is one of the signature events of the month-long Memphis in May International Festival that brings nearly 75,000 people to downtown Memphis and hosts over 230 of the world’s top pitmasters.

This year, teams competing have flown in from over 25 states and several countries, and Sugarfire will compete in the following categories: whole hog, beef, poultry, exotic, seafood, wings, tomato sauce, mustard sauce and vinegar sauce.

Johnson placed first in the 2018 Memphis in May World Championship for the seafood category.
