ST CHARLES, Mo. — A new doughnut shop just opened in St. Charles.
The Donut Experiment started serving up made-to-order doughnuts on Monday.
The story behind the shop
Travis and Diane Boyer are the owners.
While on vacation in Florida in 2014 they found The Donut Experiment. They thought the doughnuts were so good, they had them for breakfast twice that week.
They both thought it would be something “really neat” to bring back to the St. Charles area.
Fast forward to 2016 – they were back in Florida. And after doing some research, they decided to buy into the franchise.
Travis said it has been a long process “full of joy and excitement to nervousness and many tears.”
He said they chose for the shop to be located along 5th Street in St. Charles because they have lived in St. Charles County for 20 years and they have always loved the area.
About the doughnuts
At The Donut Experiment, you start out with a fresh made vanilla doughnut, it will never be more than 30 minutes old. From there, you can pick from six icings: chocolate, caramel, maple, vanilla, glaze and a special icing.
Then your doughnut will be dipped into a topping of your choice. The shop features more than a dozen toppings including Sriracha!
At the shop you can also get coffee, hot chocolate, juices and milk. The shop has a meeting room that sits up to 40 people and will be able to host birthday parties and other events.
The Donut Experiment is located at 416 S 5th Street in St. Charles. It will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
