Flag Day happenings in the St. Louis metro

From citizenship ceremonies to collecting old flags, here's how the Bi-State is recognizing Flag Day.

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — Flag Day falls on Friday, June 14 this year.

As part of the holiday celebrations, 50 people will become U.S. citizens in a special naturalization ceremony at the iconic Gateway Arch. This event coincides with the day the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes 247 years ago.

In St. Charles, veterans are organizing a flag retirement collection. This is so that people can get rid of their worn or damaged American flags. People are asked to bring them to the St. Charles County Administration Building on North Second Street. The drive-thru collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

The ritual will be conducted by the Elks Americanism & Veterans Services Committee and Boy Scout Troop 492 out of Bellerive Elementary. Worn=out flags can also be left at any time at the Flag Disposal Repository.

Flag Day will be celebrated at Manchester City Hall at noon to honor the Stars and Stripes. This patriotic event celebrates the enduring spirit of American unity, freedom, and history. It will also include the dedication of the flag poles outside of the new Manchester City Hall.
