SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — The Saint Louis Art Museum's 2024 season is here, starting with a Matisse collection. It's called "Matisse and the Sea" and explores the significance of the sea in the work of modernist artist Henri Matisse.
The exhibition features artwork in coastal locations on the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Pacific oceans with marine imagery that was an important catalyst for Matisse's artistic voice.
Although you can buy tickets to see the famous artwork, there is also a chance for you to experience the sounds of that inspiration. In its Free Fridays series, SLAM and the Chamber Project Saint Louis are teaming up to highlight how artists and composers are both influenced by waves of sound, light and change.
It's a unique collaboration that features not only the artwork in the Museum's collection but will also include free tickets to "WAVE: Ripple Effects," which highlights musicians inspired by the works of Georgia O'Keefe, Ansel Adams and many more well-known artists.
If you're looking for an elevated, free event, this innovative concert series is available from 6-7:30 p.m. May 10 at the Saint Louis Art Museum's Farrell Auditorium. Registration is requested. You can reserve tickets for free in person and only at the museum, online via MetroTix with a small service fee, or over the phone with MetrTix also for a small fee.
