Shaw Nature Reserve plant sale offers more than 100 native plants

The wildflower market is open online now. Plants will be available for pickup during the Spring Wildflower Market in May.

ST. LOUIS — Planting season is right around the corner. If you are looking for a way to beautify your yard or garden while celebrating the botanical diversity of Missouri, Shaw Nature Reserve has the sale for you.

Starting Wednesday, you can shop for local plants and flowers online from Shaw Nature Reserve. The shop page has more than 100 native plants from amorpha canescens to zizia aurea.

"Gardening with native plants provides food and shelter for pollinators like birds, bees and butterflies," a news release from the Missouri Botanical Garden said. "It also reduces costs associated with fertilizer and insecticides."

Plants purchased through the online shop can be picked up at the Nature Reserve during the Spring Wildflower Market. The market will also feature native plant experts to answer questions and give advice.

The market starts with a Missouri Botanical Garden members-only day on Friday, May 3, from 3-7 p.m. The event is open to the public Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free for MoBOT members. For non-members, tickets are $5 per person or $10 per car.

Shaw Nature Reserve is a 2,441-acre natural asset in Gray Summit. It is operated by the Missouri Botanical Garden and features natural Missouri habitats like wetlands, prairies and trails.
