Meet the man behind the music at St. Louis Blues, Cardinals games

Jeremy Boyer has provided live organ music to thousands of St. Louisans for nearly two decades.

ST. LOUIS — If you've attended a St. Louis Blues or St. Louis Cardinals game in the past nearly two decades, then you've heard the music of Jeremy Boyer setting the tone for fans at every high and low.

Boyer, the official organist for the teams, sat down Saturday morning with "Today in St. Louis" weekend anchors Travis Cummings and Mercedes MacKay to discuss how his career has brought together his love for music and sports.

The Potosi, Missouri, native shared that he grew up with an organ in his home. Boyer recalls his mother inheriting the organ from his grandmother.

"My mom didn't really use it too much, but I fell in love with it. I played it in band and choir," Boyer said.

As a huge sports fan, Boyer got his start helping sports teams in college.

The Blues have used Boyer's talents for 17 seasons and the Cardinals for 12. Boyer even has a 2019 Stanley Cup championship ring.

And after all this time, he still loves playing music at the games.

The motivation behind what fans hear at the game is "what's going to get the crowd hyped up," he said. " I feel it out. ... Because I am there and I am a live person, I can interpret that into my music."

Boyer couldn't pick a favorite tune. He said it's "like picking between children."

When Boyer is not playing for the Cardinals, another organist, Dwayne Hilton, provides the game's soundtrack.

As for music, Boyer said it's a way to emulate emotions and feelings, and to share those with fans.
