ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A local attorney has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against pop superstar Katy Perry.
The lawsuit alleges that Perry ripped off Christian hip-hop artist Flame's 2008 song, "Joyful Noise" for her hit song "Dark Horse." Flame, also known as Marcus Gray, and his producers are represented in the lawsuit, which was filed by St. Louis attorney Michael Kahn.
According to court documents, Perry's song not only infringes on the copyright but the song tarnishes "Joyful Noise" due to "witchcraft, paganism, black magic and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in 'Dark Horse.'"
Perry released "Dark Horse" in 2013 as a part of her latest album, Prism. The song topped the Billboard music charts at its peak and has more than 440 million page views on YouTube.
Rapper Juicy J, who appears on the song with Perry, is also named in the lawsuit.
Kahn seeks damages, profits and attorney's fees on behalf of Flame and his producers, according to court documents.
Perry and her representation have not yet responded to the suit.
