A show airing Friday on HBO will feature interviews with inmates in the Greene County jail, as well as local public defenders.
A recently-posted trailer for the episode of the news show "Vice" says the segment focuses on "the functional breakdown of our judicial system."
The trailer indicates the segment will discuss the work load of local public defenders.
In one exchange featured in the trailer, a reporter asks a group of inmates: "Have any of you met with your public defenders yet?"
One of the inmates responds, "We've talked to you more than we've talked to our lawyers in a year."
In a separate clip, a local public defender tells a reporter: "25 clients in two hours. You almost have to choose the cases that you spend the most amount of time on."
Last year, the head of Missouri's public defender system tried to appoint then-Gov. Jay Nixon to handle a case, in protest of declining funding. Earlier this year, the ACLU of Missouri and other entities filed a class-action lawsuit seeking to force the state to increase funding.
"Time is absolutely precious at this job," one Greene County public defender told the News-Leader last year. "It's not uncommon to be at work 70 hours a week."
"Vice" airs at 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Central time on Friday. This Friday's show will also feature a segment on the "ongoing conflict over resources in the jungles of Peru," according to the trailer.
