A significant technology shift is underway bringing a once in a decade upgrade to the wireless systems that deliver data to mobile devices called 5G. You might not know much a bout it, but it has been a decade in the making. It is transforming tech and the way we might live.
Right now there are more questions than there are answers, and that’s why Shekar Ayyar, EVP and GM of VMware is joining us to tell us more. Shekar explains that 5G stands for fifth generation wireless and cellular technology and it is the next generation of wireless that will transform our lives. This transformation is in terms of how we are going to interact with other people, the internet, mobile phones, and a number of machines in general.
Shekar gives several examples of how we will interact differently with companies like the ones that work on remote medicine, connected cars and intelligent vehicles, or digital and smart cities. All of these things will become a reality in the realm of 5G.
In the workplace, there will be an opportunity for much richer experiences like video conferencing. People on a video call could soon seem like they are right there in front of us.
This year carriers like Verizon and AT&T are starting to deploy 5G in pockets. Next year and the year after, we could see 5G becoming a lot more mainstream across the globe.
