CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — Preparations are well underway in Paris as the Summer Olympics are just under two months away!
While most of us can’t make the trip across the pond to see the athletes take the stage, we can still explore French culture in our own backyard.
There's a little slice of Paris right here in Chesterfield.
Welcome to the French Creperie! French Caribbean native, Natacha Douglas, opened the quaint French café with a dream to share her love of crepes with our community.
"I always grew up making crepes. And I'm wanting to find authentic crepes in St. Louis. I live around Chesterfield, West County area, so I look for that. Couldn't find it. So I decided to open my own as a hobby. And it just completely took off," Douglas said.
The French Creperie is whipping up around 200 crepes a day! It is an Olympic sport unlike any other. But still, here everyone can be an athlete. The café hosts crepe-making classes in the evening.
So, Mary and I decided to compete for the gold! We put on our chef hats and put our culinary skills to the test!
"I wanted to show them that it's easy to make, but also show my culture at the same time. So you get to make the batter from scratch, you get to learn how to spin the crepe like a professional, and then you get to choose whichever crepe you want to make," Douglas said.
You can choose from savory or sweet. The instructors all speak French as the language is incorporated into the class. Thankfully, our coach, Caroline, helped us out every step of the way!
Mary C. went with the C'est Paris. A sweet crepe filled with strawberries, bananas, and Nutella.
I went savory with the Jambon et Fromage, a crepe with ham, cheese, and French béchamel sauce.
We couldn’t think of a better way to prepare for the Summer Olympics. After all – every athlete needs the proper fuel!
The French Creperie makes it easy, with a little slice of Paris right here in the Lou.
