Melanie starts by saying that every year, more and more families are choosing to stay in places where they can spread out but still all be together. This means they are renting vacation homes. So, where are they going?
The most popular place to go right now is Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This is one of the birth places of the vacation home rental craze with cabins all throughout the Smokey Mountains.
Vrbo’s top international destination is in Mexico. Puerto Penasco is a beach destination on the Sea of Cortez. There are nearly 2,000 Vrbo properties available in the area and more than half have pools! The average cost of renting a home or condo there is about $268 per night.
As far as up and coming destinations, Bella Vista, Arkansas made the list. There are homes to rent on lovely recreational lakes and golf courses, and now it has the Crystal Bridges Art Museum. Average cost to rent a home there is around $150.
The top trending urban getaway is Indianapolis, Indiana. It is nice to stay in walking distance of downtown, or by the Motor Speedway.
