ST. LOUIS — It's black history month and we are celebrating our Black queens. She shines bright in the spotlight and academics.
Friday morning, Mary Caltrider sat down with Miss Black Midwest 2024 Tyler Lackland. Tyler is a third-year medical student at St. Louis University's School of Medicine. In her limited spare time, she also participates in pageants including Miss Black USA.
Miss Black USA is a pageant that celebrates the brilliance, beauty, and potential of black women. It was founded in 1987 and has become a trailblazer to inspire and empower the next generation of women across the nation. It empowers women of color to become role models, leaders, community advocates, and so much more. It's a sense of community where every person of color feels seen, heard, and valued.
Scholarships are given out to eligible women and help to provide life-changing opportunities in furthering your education. Tyler shares her experience being in the pageant and shares some of her future goals and aspirations.
Get ready to put Dr as her title, because her goal is to become the next great cardiothoracic surgeon. Tyler has a busy schedule ahead of her because she will also be walking the national stage on August 3-4 with Miss Black USA in Washington D. C. She is thrilled to be representing the St. Louis community on a national level and represent diversity and success for women everywhere.
