Clayton, MO — Clementine's Naughty and Nice Creamery is now serving Asparagus Agave Quinoa Ice Cream for a limited time. So how does it taste? Show Me St. Louis' Heidi Glaus and Dana Dean tried it for themselves.
Asparagus Agave Quinoa Ice Cream is a light green ice cream that almost looks like it could be mint but make no mistake, that color is actually the roasted asparagus fresh from Eckert's Farm. And those tiny brown specks, that's toasted agave covered quinoa. All this is blended with a creamy base.
How in the world does one come up with this crazy flavor? It all started as a dare from the VP of retail operations at Eckert's Farm.
Tamara Keefe, Clementine's Naughty and Nice Creamery owner, said, "I was sitting out on the farm with Angie Eckert and I was talking to her about doing new ice cream and what they were growing fresh next. She said, 'We have all this asparagus.' And I said, 'Asparagus? Hmmm.' And she goes, 'You couldn't do anything with asparagus, could you?' I said, 'Yes I can and yes I will.'"
Now to the taste test.
Dana: "Asparagus agave quinoa ice cream... "
Heidi: "I didn't think these things were supposed to go together... Okay, I kinda like it."
Dana: "It is interesting. I gotta take another bite."
Heidi: "Do you think you could get Jack to eat his vegetables this way?"
Dana: "Yeah, I do. It's starting to crunch a little bit. I taste the asparagus. "
Heidi: "Surprisingly... delicious."
