CREVE COEUR, Mo. — When I think of French restaurants in St. Louis the first place that comes to mind is La Bonne Bouchée.
The authentic French patisserie and café brings the beauty and charm of a cozy Parisian café to the heart of Creve Coeur, and they’ve been doing it since the 80s!
"It's grown since 1981, where we're sitting right now with this café behind us, was the bakery. And now you see we have the huge bakery behind us. So, we keep expanding," says Brian Shannon, Co-Owner of La Bonne Bouchée.
Shannon acquired the café from French pastry chef and previous owner, Olivier Leguet.
"We've stayed true to his work and everything he's put into it. I do have a business partner, we have not done anything with any recipes, and we have not changed anything. We want to honor him and what he's created over these years. So all we've done really is aesthetically tried to make it a little more open, a little more bright," Shannon says.
Staying true to his work while churning out countless desserts and pastries daily! The Strawberry Mousseline Fruit Top Cake is a best seller.
"It's a vanilla cake, vanilla mousse fresh strawberries on the inside, outside has toasted almonds on the edges. And then with all the different fruits on top, we typically sell about 150 to 200 of those just on the weekend alone," Shannon says.
And what would a trip to La Bonne Bouchée be without an order of their French Onion Soup? The recipe is the iconic French Onion Soup from Famous and Barr, which Shannon notes is a "St. Louis staple."
Beautifully decorated cookies shift with the seasons, and right now the staff is training for the biggest event of the summer!
"So, we're making some cookies with the Olympic Rings on it. We made some flags. We made an Eiffel Tower. Just trying to get the vibe of the Olympics," Shannon says.
