ST. LOUIS — At the corner of Ivanhoe and Arsenal sits City Sewing Room.
Anne Stirnemann is the Executive Director, "Most of the women and men come in here because they want to share their sewing with other people," she said.
Which is how she met, Nancy Pinkston. Nancy runs Santa's Helpers. The St. Louis based, volunteer charity makes sure children in Saint Louis have gifts for Christmas. "Each child gets six gifts. Last year, we did 1196 families, over 3600 children and 1400 adults," Nancy said.
When Santa’s Helpers received thousands of Barbie dolls to gift this Christmas season, Nancy enlisted the help of Anne and City Sewing Room.
"On the third Tuesday of every month at the City Sewing Room we have sewing and service day. People come in and they volunteer to sew. So, that's the day people come in and we make these Barbie doll dresses and we can probably crank out 50 dresses at a time," Anne explained.
The simple design is made to fit Barbie dolls of all shapes and sizes.
"This design, actually, my friend came up with and I stole it and been using it for years because it's easy and we could make them quickly," Nancy said.
These Barbies and their dresses are sure to bring a smile to the children of St. Louis on Christmas morning and for years to come.
