People on Medicare, or those about to be, need to be on the lookout for scammers who want your information. These people can steal your identity by using your Medicare number along with other personal information. Andy Crouppen, of Brown & Crouppen, is here to make sure you are taking the necessary precautions.
What should we be watching out for? Andy explains that it is another cautionary tale of using common sense when people call you on the phone unexpectedly. These scams always involve someone calling you and making themselves sound legitimate and credible. Somehow, they can lure you into giving them personal information. These scammers are smart, sophisticated and organized, so you must be careful.
Andy goes on to say that Medicare will never call you unsolicited. They will only call if you have already signed up for one of their drug or health plans, or if you have called them and asked for a callback. They will not ask you for personal information.
Recently Medicare went through a big change where they no longer use social security numbers as group numbers. Everyone was issued a new card with a random number. Andy says that everyone might not have their new card yet, but they are at the end of the process.
