ST. LOUIS — ST. LOUIS -- It's been four years in the making. Finally, the countdown is on for a new underground museum to open in St. Louis that's grabbed national headlines.
July 3 is the opening date and there's a lot of new things to get used to.. For example, it's no longer called the Museum of Westward Expansion but simply the Museum at the Gateway Arch. And there's a new entrance along with 45,000 square feet of additional space once you get inside.
Forget what you may have seen on your fourth-grade field trip. There's now 101 years more history to share with people, starting with colonial St. Louis through what it was like when Eero Saarinen won the design competition to build the Arch. You'll also find touchscreens and video-based exhibits.
Samantha Fisher, Director of Communications said, "Everyone has been working very hard to make sure this new museum is fitting of our national monument, the Gateway Arch. And the feedback that we've gotten back from people so far is that it's unlike anything they've expected or imagined. We just know people are really going to enjoy coming here."
Grand Opening July 3 at 10 a.m. For more information, go to archpark.org/events. Admission to the museum is free.
