Six years ago, a new Christmas tradition started in St. Louis, the region’s largest indoor holiday train display at the Museum of Transportation! The display opens on Black Friday, and we were able to get a preview.
In 2013, a group of volunteers set out to create a display inside of the Museum of Transportation. All of a sudden, they were offered the former Famous and Barr Macy’s display from downtown St. Louis. Every year since then from November 29 to January 5, Museum of Transportation visitors can enjoy two different train displays.
The reaction these displays get from kids of all ages can’t be beat! Volunteers spent about two weeks putting together the main display. They hand-carve the Styrofoam scenery and make waterfalls out of saran wrap and white spray paint. Every year they add something new, and this year it was the circus tent.
Kids can also visit the Creation Station for an extra two dollars, and everyone can enjoy the miniature train and trolley, weather permitting.
The big man himself, Santa will be making an appearance most weekends from Thanksgiving until Christmas.
