ST. LOUIS — Today Show Me St. Louis welcomed Normandy High School Live on Television Plaza for Tailgate Friday. Go Vikings!
Normandy High School opened their doors for the first time back in the 1923-24 school year. This year Normandy High School (NHS) is celebrating 100 years of educating students and serving their community. The school’s origin began with the cost of sending Normandy students to other schools for High School. Negotiations started with the German Evangelical Society for purchasing Eden Seminary (now located in Webster Groves). There were twenty-four acres with a four-story brick building as well as three brick and two frame residences on the property at the time. A frame building north of the seminary building was used as a gymnasium.
During the April 1924 election, voters authorized the issue of $200,000 in bonds for the purchase of Eden Seminary. The High School and the seminary jointly used the facilities for the 1923-24 school year and shared expenses of maintenance.
Today, the NHS campus comprises six major buildings and Viking Hall, which doubles as a performing arts venue and sports arena. The campus is currently undergoing a $26 million renovation that will upgrade facilities and create a new Welcome Center.
This Saturday, October 21st the NHS Football Team is having a Pink Out football game where all proceeds from the entry fee to the concession stands will go towards Breast Cancer Awareness research. Tomorrow is their biggest game of the year against their rival, Jennings High School.
