Physical therapist shares how your breathing could be impacting your pelvic floor health

ST. LOUIS — This Wellness Wednesday, physical therapist, Veronica Lane, joined Mary in studio to share tips for better pelvic floor health. Lane explains the pelvic floor consists of 3 layers of muscles that attach from the pubic bone to the tailbone. Pelvic floor dysfunction includes issues such as urinary urgency and frequency, urinary incontinence, prolapse, constipation and pelvic pain. Lane shares myths regarding pelvic floor health:

Myth #1: Only postpartum women and postmenopausal women have pelvic floor dysfunction.

Fact: Everyone has a pelvic floor and men and women of all ages can experience dysfunction.

Myth #2: Pelvic floor dysfunction is normal after pregnancy and as people age.

Fact: Pelvic floor dysfunction is common not normal, meaning you don't have to live with it as your normal.

Myth #3: Kegel exercises, medication or surgery are the only treatment options for pelvic floor dysfunction.
