ST. LOUIS — In this weeks match up of the Tackle Hunger campaign -- the rivalry gets intense between Breeze Central and Mater Dei Catholic.
The rivalry dates back years between the two schools
"When you have brothers and cousins and relatives going against each other, not to mention neighbors, you're going to have that rivalry," Dennis Litteken, Principal of Mater Dai said.
On the grid iron the two schools competing for this here trophy.
"The Milk Bowl back here is very important to both teams and both schools and we compete every year in that competition," Principal of Breeze Central, Roger Freeze said.
But over the last three years, the two schools have gone a step further competing head to head for the number one spot in the Tackle Hunger campaign for Operation Food Search.
"With the cross town rivalry that always lights a fire under our belt," Senior, Zoe Luth said.
"Everyone get's involved and has people trying to battle for who wins," Senior, Alyssa Koerkenmeier said.
At Breeze Central deciding who win's is strongly encouraged by the incentives
"The competition between all the classes here is whoever gets the most cans they get a pizza party and Ski," Senior, Preston Baker said.
Over at Mater Dai Catholic -- deciding who win's has been encouraged with a little creativity.
"So, we did kind of a Tik Tok challenge asking everyone "what are you bringing" "what homeroom do you think is going to bring the most". So, it's just fun to try to get as many people to donate," Koerkenmeier said.
While the competition comes with it's own challenges each student body tackling the challenges of the community has been the ultimate win.
"We really preach a lot about being the hands of Christ and it just fits right in from the beginning of the school year," Litteken said. "It really helps us set that mindset that there's things bigger than ourselves,"
"I just think this is a great campaign. Operation Food Search, you know, this gives us a great opportunity to bring the community together between two schools for a good cause," Freeze said.
