The United Way's Summer Volunteer Guide

The United Way's Summer Volunteer Guide offers easy and fun opportunities for families and students to give back to the community.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — For Grace Fu and Graham Labonte volunteering at the United Way this summer was a no-brainer!

"It's really just nice that we're directly making an impact on our community, no matter what we're doing. It's just nice to be doing something with our summer," Fu says.

Summer comes with hot temperatures bringing an increased need for food and water donations, and relief baskets to help people withstand the summer heat.

"Today we're making home helper kits. So, these are going to help people in the community. Providing them some supplies they need over the summer," Labonte says.

Thanks to The United Way Summer Volunteer Guide, giving back is easy!

"We put together a wonderful resource to make volunteering easy this summer season of the school's out. And kids are wanting to do something fun and exciting to make a difference and to learn new skills," says Rick Skinner, Vice President of the Volunteer Center.

The Guide can be found at STLVolunteer.org/syg. The resource has an age-range search option where you can select the youngest member of your volunteer group, and a list of different opportunities will populate.

The guide also features Do-It-Yourself projects, where you can create meaningful volunteer projects in your own space on your own schedule.

"We give you all the tips and tools of all the things that you can gather on your own. And then we give you not only instructions on how do you assemble that into a really meaningful kit, but then how you donate that to one of our trusted safety net member agencies," Skinner says.

The United Way makes it easy to make a difference to make a difference this Summer.
