ST. LOUIS — The holidays can be difficult for both parents and children. As we head closer to the holidays, our host Mary Caltrider sat down with Jasmine Berger, a play therapist and founder of Bud to Bloom Play Therapy.
Bud to Bloom Play Therapy is a small group practice that specializes in using play to express therapies with children with trauma, big behaviors, and attachment disruptions. This means the organization uses play to help children heal and process their emotions in a language that is natural to them. Bud to Bloom Play Therapy uses play to help families connect and build healthy strong relationships that help parents to understand and delight in their child.
They also offer community-based services, community education on play and childhood trauma, and connections to help expand our impact beyond our 4 walls.
The holidays can be a fun and exciting time but also very overwhelming and dysregulating for children. Schedules are different and expectations are not always clear, making it hard for kids to know what they should do. Talking about expectations can be helpful even if it's chunks of time for certain activities. This can help your child know what to expect.
Another tip is to foster a connection with your child. Think of ways you can have one-on-one moments with your child and be present in the moment.
Last but not least, validate your child's feelings and encourage them to accept their emotions and what they are feeling.
