On the corner of Jackson and Pershing in University City, a new business with a curious name opened its doors.
Jeff Gerhardt said, "There's a lot of businesses that have come and gone and a lot of residents have called it a very cursed location."
That didn't scare away the owners of a new bike and coffee shop from giving it a spin.
"It's so renowned for being cursed, my wife came up with the idea that we should embraced that, and call it Cursed Bikes & Coffee," he said.
Cursed Bikes & Coffee hopes to reverse the so-called curse.
He said, "There's foot traffic and bike traffic, don't know why it hasn't worked out but we're going to give it a go this time."
Owner Jeff Gerheardt thinks he has the right tools to succeed.
"Bikers love coffee and you can bring your bike in, and while I'm working on it, you can grab a cup of coffee," he said.
Of course, you don't need a bike to come and enjoy a beverage or snack but if you do arrive on wheels, Jeff can fix a flat tire, replace brake pads, and even build you a custom bike frame.
The owners of Cursed Bikes & Coffee have been open a little more than a week and are already working on some additions.
Jeff said, "Right now, we're not renting bikes, people really want bike rentals, and we're hoping to get that out in the next month."
They've also started making Italian sodas after customers asked for them.
The owners of Cursed Bikes & Coffee hopes the name will just be that, a name.
