ST. ANN, Mo. – St. Louis' newest singing sensation has survived another round of NBC's The Voice. Tish Haynes Keys is advancing after her performance of "Lady Marmalade" in the Knockout Round.
Before the Voice, Tish performed at Bar Code in St. Ann. They'd set up a stage and her family and friends would watch. Now, they're watching her on a much bigger stage. Monday, they met at Bar Code to watch the Knockout Round on TV.
Tish's husband, Tobias Keys, is used to watching her perform "Lady Marmalade." He says she has performed it at venues in the St. Louis area.
"I've heard her sing that song a billion times," Tobias said. "She's never sung that song like that, especially on TV."
Tish Haynes Keys wowed the Voice audience and judges, too.
"I fed off of the energy I was getting from the audience," Tish said. "As soon as they heard that 'Hey sista, go,' they just started clapping."
Her competitor, D.R. King, won the Knockout Round but Kelly Clarkson saved her.
"I knew that the battle would be good because D.R. is an amazing performer," Tish said. "Kelly is just so amazing."
Now, Tish is spending some time in L.A., where she will prepare for the Playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Monday. This is the first year the Playoffs will be live.
"I'm fully sequestered," she said. "We can't leave."
Tobias plans to be in the audience Monday.
"I won’t be on the show but I'll be in the crowd," he said. “But watching her do this, make it to this level? Amazing."
Monday, you can vote for Tish on Twitter and through The Voice app.
"I'm truly grateful," Tish said. "Truly grateful."
