ST. LOUIS — When given a chance to make a wish, most kids may ask for a toy or maybe even an iPad.
But 5-year-old Grayson at St. Louis Children’s Hospital hopes his wish will help other kids like him.
Grayson was granted a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri & Kansas after getting diagnosed with leukemia in July of 2020.
His wish was to make sure sick kids at the hospital could have fun bed sheets for their hospital beds.
It was something that came to fruition after Grayson told his mom he missed the character bedding and decorations he had in his room at home.
Knowing the feeling of how happy it made his days, Grayson knew that was what he wanted for every kid at his hospital too.
As part of his wish experience, Grayson, his mom and the Make-A-Wish team will be creating 75 care packages with new bed sheets and matching accessories or books for kids staying at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Grayson and his family will be joining the team at the West County Mall Macy’s on Monday, April 26 to start looking at sheets.
“Grayson is a perfect example of what makes our job at Make-A-Wish so inspiring and remarkable,” said Ashley Hopkins, Director of Mission Delivery of Make-A-Wish Missouri & Kansas. “We believe strongly in the power of a wish to transform a child’s life and in this case, to see the impact Grayson’s wish is going to have on so many other children battling critical illnesses, is very heart-warming. We’re excited to help him make this special wish come true. We’re very grateful to Macy’s team for helping us with this effort.”
Local Macy’s team members also plan to write letters and “thank you” beauty baskets for local healthcare and hospital staff as an addition to the gifts for patients.
