VALLEY PARK, Mo. — In partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation and the World Bird Sanctuary, Ameren Missouri is launching its 10th season of Falcon Cam.

For 13 hours each day, you can watch a pair of peregrine falcons nest and hatch their chicks.

The stream is live on Ameren Missouri's website between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. each day.

Jeff Meshach, the director of the World Bird Sanctuary, said the Falcon Cam is an educational way to teach viewers about the peregrine falcon as it continues to grow its species, which was at one point at the brink of extinction.

"Our camera will provide a window into the nesting life of the world's fastest creature, and I personally will find it hard to get any desk work done as I watch my favorite of the world's bird species,” Meshach said.

According to Ameren’s site, peregrine falcons are considered the fastest animal on earth. They have been clocked diving at 261 mph. They also tend to lay their eggs in cliff hollows, bare rocky outcrops or tall building ledges.

Fact sheets, classroom activities and lesson plans are available on the site for those looking to take notes and learn while watching the live cam.

The partnership between the Missouri Department of Conservation and the World Bird Sanctuary began so that the two could use their diverse resources to protect and preserve wildlife in the heartland.

If you have any questions about the falcons or the falcon cam, there is a section beneath the falcon cam called ‘Ask Jeff’, where you can submit them.
