CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — Duck Donuts kicked off its fourth annual Gabe’s Chemo Duck Program Campaign this week.

The campaign is designed to help alleviate the fear and anxiety of children undergoing cancer treatment, a press release stated.

The campaign takes place every September, which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and has raised nearly $190,000 to date.

This year, funds will go directly to 50 children’s hospitals in the communities where Duck Donuts’ owners serve.

Throughout the month, customers can choose to round up their purchase to the next dollar, with the difference donated to the “Quack Gives Back” program.

Contributions will provide children undergoing cancer treatment with access to Gabe’s Chemo Duck Program. The program “encourages healing through the power of play therapy for children and families dealing with childhood cancer.”

Customers who visit the Chesterfield location will have the opportunity to support the campaign. The money raised will go towards the purchase of Chemo Duck Programs at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

“Gabe’s Chemo Duck Program is an important resource not just for the children undergoing cancer treatment and their families, but also for the doctors, nurses, child life specialists, and other supporters who are trying to comfort children and navigate them through what can be a very scary experience,” said Russ DiGilio, founder and CEO of Duck Donuts.

Since becoming a sponsor in 2017, donations from Duck Donuts have enabled 6,000 families to receive the programs at no cost, according to the release. The program includes a “Chemo Duck” used for medical play therapy, bilingual companion overview book, activity book, and an educational DVD.
