ST. LOUIS — It’s official! Forest Park has been named one of the best parks in the country.
It placed second in the USA Today 2021 10Best Readers' Choice travel awards.
An expert panel nominated Forest Park into its top 10 list in mid-January and the winning park was chosen based off popular vote more than a month later.
USA Today’s awards page describes Forest Park as a great place for outdoor attractions including the Saint Louis Zoo, Jewel Box, Missouri History Museum, Saint Louis Science Center and Planetarium and Muny Theater. Its widely used outdoor recreations like skating, jogging trails, boating and soccer fields also made it a favorite among the panel.
This isn’t the first time Forest Park has made it on the prestigious list. In 2016, Forest Park earned the top spot.
If you're wondering which park took first place, it was Gathering Place in Tulsa.
You can look forward to the Muny performing its 103rd season this summer at Forest Park.
The season is set to open July 5 and close Sept. 5.
Here's the schedule:
- Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: July 5–11
- Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins: July 14–22
- Smokey Joe’s Cafe: July 25–31
- The Sound of Music: Aug. 3–9
- Sweeney Todd: Aug. 12 – 18
- On Your Feet!: Aug. 21–27
- Chicago: Aug. 30–Sept. 5
The listed seven shows were scheduled for 2020, but due to the coronavirus, the season was canceled. It was the first time a Muny season was suspended in its 102-year operation.
The Muny said it will continue to evaluate every aspect of its operation with health officials.
