People celebrate after taking part in the New Year's eve at Times Square on January 1, 2017 in New York.

The chances are one in a million—or however many of those tiny pieces of confetti rained down on New Year’s Eve revelers in Times Square.

About 3,000 pounds of confetti was released when the ball dropped at midnight. One of those pieces had a note from a St. Louis couple.

Steve and Kathy Mayes were on their annual trip to New York City last month. While visiting Times Square, they stopped by a booth that allows you to write a message on a piece of confetti.

On New Year’s Day, Steve got a text that their message didn’t just float away in the wind.

A woman from Brooklyn got their piece of confetti, and she texted the proof to the Mayes.

“All of a sudden out of the air came this piece of confetti and landed right on top of her hand. She said she took it off and looked at it and all she could make out was the phone number and she thought it would be special to let someone know they found it,” Kathy said.

Steve served as a St. Louis police officer for 26 years and wanted to share the love to first responders on New Year’s Eve.

His message said, “God bless the first responders.”

The couple is making plans to meet up with the woman who found their piece of confetti during their trip back to New York this December.
