ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — In just two days, a group called St. Charles All Together raised more $9,000 on Facebook to provide food for the health care community and they're just getting started. They want to raise more than $100,000.
"It is an incredible goal, but it's not unfeasible," said Angel Magasano, the O'Fallon Partnership Vice-Chair. "We have 145,000 households in St. Charles County. So if each of those households would make a one-time donation of $3.10. We could reach that goal easily."
Starting Monday, food delivery to hospitals in St. Charles County will begin. The organization plans to feed 250 hospital workers every day for 45 days. The initiative is also meant to support restaurants.
"100% of the proceeds are going to be used to purchase meals from local restaurants," Magasano said.
In Creve Coeur, this unprecedented time reveals hidden talents. A teacher at Whitfield School gave this homework assignment: take a video of a hobby you've never had time for until now.
"I wanted them to highlight those moments where they were experiencing happiness," said Sari Rotskoff, a 9th grade English teacher.
LeLe Applegate learned how to bake a French pastry.
"I'd given them to my grandparents and they really liked them," Applegate said. "They are hard to impress so it felt good to make them happy."
And in Collinsville, a sewing group at Meadow Heights Baptist Church is busy cranking out masks for businesses and hospitals. Marty Ramsey made more than 400 masks and almost 100 surgical caps herself, some of which are seen here on the team in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Barnes Jewish Hospital.
“I'm receiving a great blessing every day," Ramsey said "I spend over 200 hours in my sewing room. I don't question why I'm doing it, I don't do it for earthly praise, but it's a wonderful feeling knowing I can help those who are suffering at this time."
The church is also raising money on GoFundMe to feed health care workers.
From St. Charles to Creve Coeur, to Collinsville, kindness is everywhere.
