ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Missouri — The newly named Kinetic Park in Dardenne Prairie is about to get a major transformation.
The St. Charles County Council approved the park name change from Youth Activity Park Monday night, setting in motion the upcoming construction and park additions.
According to the press release, construction will begin this spring and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
“We are thrilled about the new name and development plans. This is an opportunity for the County to not only provide more activities in this area, but to create a unique showpiece for our community,” County Council Chair Mike Elam said.
Construction plans include the development of an indoor activity center, bike playground, skills course, splash play, and an adventure playground.
“I am pleased that we are transforming this 18-year-old park into something much more for residents of all ages,” says County Executive Steve Ehlmann. “After the addition of the pump track, we experienced an influx of visitors and began reimagining what the park could be. Kinetic Park will be a destination for those who want to experience a variety of high-energy activities – indoors and out.”
The park is home to the largest pump track in the United States. A pump track is a bicycle track with hills and curves that is ridden by moving the body up and down rather than pedaling. The park also has the largest outdoor skate park in Missouri and 30-foot indoor rock-climbing wall.
The 23-year-old park, located at 7801 Town Square in Dardenne Prairie, will be overseen by the St. Charles County Parks Department throughout the transformation.
Funding will come from local use tax.
