Locals have known it for a while, and now the rest of the world is starting to take notice-- St. Louis is home to some of the best beers in the world.

In honor of International Beer Day on August 5, RateBeer.com released a list of the top 20 beers in the world, and alongside beers brewed by the Trappist monks of Belgium and a Russian imperial stout that's only available one day a year are two brews from right here at home.

Coming in at number 19 on the list is Thicket from Side Project Brewing. The sour ale is aged on blackberries and the result is a fruity, flavorful beer that pours a dark purple. The Side Project Cellar, located in Maplewood, was named a semi-finalist for a James Beard Award in the outstanding bar program category earlier this year.

Also representing St. Louis on the list, coming in at number 17, is the Barrel Aged Abraxas from Perennial Artisan Ales. The imperial stout is barrel aged with cacao nibs, cinnamon sticks, vanilla beans, and ancho chiles. The result is a thick, full-bodied, complex beer that's slightly spicy.

Both brews boast overall ratings of 100 on RateBeer.com.

So go enjoy some of the best beer available in St. Louis and the world!
