BELLEVILLE, Ill. — A Starbucks in O'Fallon, Illinois, has joined more than 400 stores and 10,000 workers nationwide who have unionized with Starbucks Workers United within the last three years.
Friday, the Starbucks location at Green Mount Road and Interstate 64 announced a vote 10-6 in favor of becoming the eight-store in the St. Louis area to unionize.

"We are super optimistic about the future of our store, and the future of the labor movement in general,” Starbucks employee Jaxin Olliff said in an emailed press release. “I’m extremely proud of our team, and so thankful to the wide array of local community members who went out of their way to support us in our union fight! We are courageously exercising the power of the people and doing our part for the future of the labor movement.”
Starbucks Workers United says it protects workers in the issues of respect, living wages, and racial and gender equity.
In February 2024, unionized Starbucks workers reached an agreement with the company after years of trying to dismantle the foundational framework to allow for more collective bargaining.
According to the press release from Starbucks United, Starbucks has used illegal union-busting tactics and refused to negotiate.
Since 2021, the 400 Starbucks stores that have unionized have come from 42 states and the District of Columbia which is more than any other company in the 21st Century, Starbucks Workers United said.
